The past few days have made no sense to me. I was bitten by a dog for the first time in my life — three times! Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by a wide margin, but Donald Trump was confirmed by the Electoral College as our next president. The new governor of North Carolina has had his authority drastically reduced by his predecessor who lost a narrow election. I made the mistake of reading all the ways my marriage to my partner of 14 years may be made invalid in three easy steps. Knowledge and surety I’ve relied on landed somewhere in the Twilight Zone today. I had to do a few internal double takes and keep my faith that they will be recovered in the next episode.
By 3 p.m., even though I spend most of my life now in a five-mile radius, I thought of venturing to the other side of the island. Why not? In a world turned upside down, taking a trek on unfamiliar turf or even booking a trip to the Bermuda Triangle may become the new normal — and healthy!
