My child writes numbers.
She creates their shapes and edges out
white space on her board to show
she understands more than she knows.
My child does not like to subtract.
Reluctantly she takes away
lines and curves created to support
meager figures that might be forgotten
when measured against those much bigger.
My child wants to hold all numbers together.
She brings back the missing that some
would leave out of the final count.
